For Burgundy Chardonnay we look for the most diverse wine styles. From fresh to powerful and full. For red Burgundy wine we prefer elegance. Rich Pinot Noir can sometimes be a bit biting in its youth. We try to avoid that. In addition, we have know-how of Burgundy and Beaujolais. Since we lived there with our B&B Maison Mazille and were able to taste everything side by side, we know who can make the difference. We provide guidance in what a good wine should be, but we also listen to what our customers want. In between lies a certain balance that we wish to fulfill.
The best Burgundy wine years
No blind (continuity) purchases. Everything is compared every year and if a vintage of a certain winery disappoints, we come up with a suitable alternative. In addition to the magic of the winemaker, vintage is all-determining in Burgundy.
We select wine based on winemaker, then vintage, then origin (e.g. Gevrey-Chambertin, Meursault, Chassagne-Montrachet, etc.) In that order and not the other way around! We are not sensitive to expensive sounding appellations. Of course there are beautiful wines among them, but the real value can be found in the magical hands of the winemaker and preferably before he/she becomes famous. Believe us that a good winemaker can make something beautiful from every terroir, even in lesser years.
Once they have made a name for themselves, the price-quality ratio is often no longer in balance and it is up to us to find new talent. Sometimes it just can't be helped...

Wine from Burgundy often needs a manual to know when or with what the wine should be drunk. We therefore find drinkability to be a very important part and will always give advice in this. Most of the wines we carry are ready to drink and if not, we will mention that explicitly.
