This white wine from Houblin is really fantastic. It may not bear the famous names of Givry, Meursault or Santenay, but it definitely deserves attention! If you drive from Chablis to Beaune, you'll pass it... but it seems like very few people take that exit. It flirts effortlessly with the quality of a Meursault or Puligny-Montrachet, but has a friendlier price tag. A beautiful, full wine that surprises many people in a very pleasant way.
A drastic decline in the number of wine growers was caused by the grape lice plague in the 19th century. The region remained relatively unknown due to economic and geographical factors. However, the red Burgundies from this region developed their own identity, fresh and fruity with mineral notes. Recently they have been gaining structure and concentration, making them attractive compared to the powerful Irancy wines on the other side of the Yonne.
The white wines of the Bourgogne Coulanges-la-Vineuse appellation have a deep pale yellow to pale yellow gold colour, with silver yellow highlights. The nose reveals a perfume of honeysuckle with notes of iodine, pear, quince, peach, honey and brioche. The palate is fleshy and sunny, with aromas of exotic fruits and a fresh and tender finish.
