Owned by the Vincent family since 1862—though the château itself dates to 1604—Château Fuissé ranks among the reference estates of Pouilly-Fuissé. Its jewel is “Les Brûlés,” a tiny 0.83-hectare, south-facing slope just behind the château whose name (“the burnt one”) reflects the intense sun the parcel receives. The steep, well-drained soils are a mosaic of clay and limestone pebbles that concentrate the Chardonnay grapes and keep yields low.
Vinification follows the house’s hallmark: the must is fermented and undergoes full malolactic in 100% new French barrels, then matured on its lees for 12 months, bottling unfiltered to preserve texture.
Tasting note (2018 vintage) – A deep golden hue introduces aromas of honeyed peach, ripe mango, vanilla pod and toasted brioche, laced with smoky mineral overtones. The palate is opulent yet firmly balanced by citrus-lined acidity, finishing with hazelnut, baking spice and a hint of flint.
Food & service – Serve at 12–13 °C with Bresse chicken in morel cream, lobster thermidor, seared turbot or foie gras; the wine’s richness partners beautifully with buttery sauces.
Cellaring – Enjoy now for its exuberant fruit, or cellar confidently to 2030 for greater tertiary depth.
A new status – Since the 2020 harvest, “Les Brûlés” has officially carried the new Pouilly-Fuissé Premier Cru designation, one of 22 climats recognised in the Mâconnais.
