The Saint-Peré “Les Perriers” is a relatively new addition to the Saint-Véran appellation (since 2008) and a new cuvée for the domaine (since 2012). This wine comes from a 0.8 hectare plot in the heart of Chasselas, located on a steep hill with a south to south-west orientation. The plot is characterized by its unique clay soil and stony limestone soil.
The harvest is carried out manually and carefully due to the fragility of the grapes, which require special care. The grape bunches are placed directly in a pneumatic press and pressed slowly at low pressure. The long-term winemaking takes place in wooden barrels (30%) and steel tanks for 6 months. This is done at low temperatures to achieve the best aromatic complexity and a palette of floral, mineral and citrusy notes.
2022, this wine feels like its cheating. Saint Veran's image has been ruined by mellow mix of grapes with no expression by the cave co-ops. This is fire 🔥🔥🔥. Hard to come by exclusive distrution so get as much as you can. Juiciness 10/10 and in addition layers of seriousness that would never pinpoint back to this appelation. Love at first...sniff, and taste. Quite oily texture but elevated with southern burg fruit of pineapples and citrus. Expensive smokey nose. Very drinkable early days. Insane value around 25e
