A wine that, like its maker, undertakes a pilgrimage – from Jura to Alsace, from clay and sand to barrel and glass. This Ultreia 2021 is a richly textured natural Riesling with layered structure, bright tension, and a mineral glow. No sharp acidity, but round depth and serenity. A rare balance between generosity and finesse.
Ultreia opens with aromas of yellow apple, lime zest and wet stone. On the palate, you immediately notice the broad, silky texture – round and generous, without the nervous edge often found in 2021 whites. The acidity is seamlessly integrated, offering lift without sharpness. The mineral core pulses beneath the fruit, giving focus and energy. A full year on the fine lees in large 600L barrels adds depth, harmony and a subtle Burgundian touch.
This elegant Riesling pairs beautifully with dishes that feature bright acidity, creaminess, or umami:
Vincent Larcelet grew up in the Jura, but found his path in Alsace – quite literally, via the Camino de Santiago, where he met his wife Sophie. He trained under respected names like Patrice Béguet and Ganevat, and in 2020 began crafting wines under his own name near Mittelbergheim. Together with Sophie, he farms 3.5 hectares naturally and manually, with zero additives and total respect for nature. His wines are honest, soulful and grounded in place.
Looking for a Riesling that speaks softly but leaves a lasting impression? Ultreia 2021 is a spiritual journey in liquid form – pure, balanced, and quietly profound.
