Fleurie 'La Verchère' 2023, Joseph Deshaires – Domaine de Beauregard

Fleurie is widely considered the most harmonious, complete, and elegant of the 10 Beaujolais Crus.

The 'La Verchère' cuvée originates from a unique terroir of pink granite. Presenting a bright ruby color, the wine opens with a fine, expressive bouquet combining elegant floral aromas (such as peony and faded rose) with ripe red and dark berries (strawberry and blackcurrant). On the palate, it is beautifully balanced and velvety, offering a delicate finish with smooth tannins and the characteristic freshness of the granitic soils.

(Good to know: Joseph Deshaires – Domaine de Beauregard is the dedicated export label of the renowned Château de Beauregard / Joseph Burrier. The wine, vineyards, and estate are identical.)

Key Highlights

  • Terroir: 100% Gamay, grown on sandy pink granite soils that impart unique refinement and mineral vitality to the wine.
  • Winemaking & Ageing: Hand-harvested at optimal ripeness. Following careful maceration, the grapes are gently pressed and aged in vats to preserve the fresh, vibrant, and fruity character.
  • Tasting Profile: Elegant and harmonious, featuring floral nuances (peony, rose), juicy red and dark fruit, and a smooth, well-balanced structure.
  • Ageing Potential: Accessible and delightful now, with optimal cellaring potential over 3 to 5 years.

Food Pairing

  • Meat: Pairs excellently with roasted lamb, white meats, and fine charcuterie.
  • Poultry: A wonderful match for various poultry dishes.
  • Charcuterie: A classic pairing with 'saucisson de Lyon' and Burgundian delicacies.
  • Serving Suggestion: Best served slightly chilled between 13°C and 15°C in large, fine crystal glasses.

The Terroir of La Verchère

The 'La Verchère' cuvée derives its refined elegance from the sandy pink granite soils of the Fleurie appellation (total surface area of 840 hectares). This specific terroir grants the Gamay grape its iconic floral notes, freshness, and delicate structure.
