Know that with us, you can expect the most "Terroir per Euro" in your glass! The Mâconnais is located to the west and northwest of the city of Mâcon, along the banks of the Saône River. The region spans an area of about 50 kilometers long and 15 kilometers wide. The landscape is characterized by parallel ridges that stretch from north to south. To the south, the Mâconnais borders the Beaujolais wine region. While the famous Côte d'Or has only one slope, the Mâconnais has many different mineral soils and exposures. This varied nature makes the Mâconnais, with its wide range of aspects, not only a source of very different and complex wine styles but also a haven, should the climate continue to warm.
Our focus lies in discovering niche wines from affordable Burgundy estates in the lesser-known corners of this extraordinary wine region. In addition, we have developed a savvy perspective on affordable alternatives from the famous parts of the Côte d’Or—such as the Bourgogne Blancs from producers like Denis Carré and Buisson Battault. Take brother and sister Depernon of Domaine du Beauregard as an example. Their Côtes du Couchois is the tranquil hinterland of the Côte Chalonnaise, or perhaps better described as the undiscovered south of the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune; it still flies under everyone’s radar for no good reason. It often takes just an extra 15 to 30 minutes of driving beyond the famous Burgundian appellations, but the fuel costs are paid back threefold when you fill your trunk with wine here!
