The only thing missing is "1er Cru" on the label, but otherwise this beautiful wine can compete with and even surpass the premier Crus.
Historical plot of the appellation near the church. A candidate for Premier Cru status without a doubt. Maturation: 30% new barrels for 24 months! These are elements for normally the greatest wines from Burgundy. Lots of spices, plums and grilled notes of cedar wood on the nose that return beautifully in the mouth. This wine has already aged beautifully and has become round and can therefore be served directly on the table to surprise people.
Domaine Houblin is an excellent winery that produces excellent wines.
This red Pinot Noir from the Chablisienne region has become wonderfully soft. Both in the start and in the aftertaste it is powerful, but also refined and beautifully round. It is considered the big brother or sister of the Coulanges-la-Vineuse Cuvée Prestige. This wine can be served slightly chilled.
Bourgogne Coulanges-la-Vineuse, located 15 km south of Auxerre on the left bank of the Yonne, is the only regional appellation in that area. With vineyards spread over seven municipalities, they benefit from a favorable microclimate thanks to their altitude between 155 and 310 meters above sea level. The soils consist of limestone, clay and marl.
A drastic decline in the number of wine growers was caused by the grape lice plague in the 19th century. The region remained relatively unknown due to economic and geographical factors. However, the red Burgundies from this region developed their own identity, fresh and fruity with mineral notes. Recently they have been gaining structure and concentration, making them attractive compared to the powerful Irancy wines on the other side of the Yonne.
A visit to this region rewards the enthusiast with characteristic Burgundies of high quality, which reflect their terroir and yet remain affordable.
