Only the Best Grapes for this Red Givry Pinot Noir

Biodynamic red Burgundy from Givry, Côte Chalonnaise. The cuvée comes from the vineyard "Les Plants Sont Fleuris". The plants have flowers in this vineyard! And that is possible thanks to their method. Vintage 2017! Beautifully matured. The selection was made from a strict pre-selection of only the most perfect grapes. As a result, the wine has a high concentration of complex flavors. Attractive ruby color with a powerful mouthfeel, plenty of small crisp red fruits. Crisp texture, medium acidity, rich, full, clean, and powerful. Fragile but truly enchanting nose of rose petals, fresh fruit, warm spices, vanilla, and cocoa.

A beautiful expression of the Pinot Noir grape from the Côte Chalonnaise. This wine, from the vineyards in Givry, is known for its elegant structure and refined flavor profile. The year 2017 was an excellent vintage in Burgundy, reflected in the rich aromas and balanced acidity of this wine. The grapes undergo the strictest pre-selection, and only the most perfect ones are gently pressed for the finest juice.

Upon opening the bottle, the senses are delighted with aromas of ripe red berries, such as cherries and raspberries, complemented by subtle herbal notes and a hint of earthy undertones. Powerful, crisp, dry, sous bois, warm dark fruit, dark chocolate, a new-style Givry with small berries that provide a contrasting fruity acidity. The minerality of the terroir beautifully shines through, giving the wine both freshness and depth.

Domaine de la Luolle

Biodynamic beauty. The estate is located in the village of Moroges, near villages such as Givry, Mercurey, Montagny, and Bouzeron in the Côte Chalonnaise. They handle everything themselves, from grape selection to vinification and bottling, while continuously learning new techniques. They now produce a super drinkable Givry, Mercurey, and a range of magical sparkling wines.
Olivier & Sandrine Dovergne from Domaine de la Luolle decided halfway through their lives to make a career switch and move to Burgundy to start a biodynamic wine estate. Sandrine, a history teacher, and Olivier, a biochemist/engineer, left their jobs and embarked on a three-year world sailing trip with their two young children. During this journey, they became convinced that winemaking would become their main activity. Longing to work in one of the most beautiful wine regions in the world, they moved to Burgundy. Since they wanted to work organically from the start, they bought the estate "La Luolle" from Guy Chaumont, who had been maintaining healthy, well-cared-for BIO vineyards for over 50 years. This is the true pinnacle of organic farming, and you can taste it in these clean wines!
No overly age-worthy Premier Crus that need time to develop, but "Vins de grand plaisir" with seductively juicy fruit, charm, and immediate drinking pleasure, combined with the intrinsic elegance and refinement of both the Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and the fresher Aligoté grapes. They shine in both still and sparkling forms! Their Crémants are, in our opinion, the best-kept secret of Burgundy. Let's keep it that way.
Côte Chalonnaise: The Hidden Gem of Burgundy

The Côte Chalonnaise, located south of the prestigious Côte de Beaune, is often an overlooked region in Burgundy. Despite its lesser-known name, this area is gaining popularity for the excellent value of its wines. While the renowned vineyards of the Côte d'Or often come with high price tags, the Côte Chalonnaise offers high-quality wines with unique character without breaking the bank. For wine lovers eager to explore more of Burgundy, the Côte Chalonnaise is a delightful surprise that proves top wines don't always have to be expensive.

What is Produced in the Côte Chalonnaise?

The Côte Chalonnaise is known for both its red and white wines. The red wines are primarily made from the Pinot Noir grape, while the white wines often come from Chardonnay. The region is home to several appellations, including Mercurey, Givry, Rully, Bouzeron, and Montagny. The wines from this region often have a refined structure and a pronounced sense of terroir, giving each bottle its own unique character. For example, the red wines from Mercurey are known for their firm yet elegant tannins, while the white wines from Montagny are noted for their freshness and minerality.

What Dishes Pair Well with Côte Chalonnaise Wines?

The wines from the Côte Chalonnaise are versatile and pair well with a wide range of dishes. The fresh Chardonnay wines pair excellently with seafood, light fish dishes, and poultry. They are also perfect with creamy sauces and soft cheeses such as Brie and Camembert. The Pinot Noir wines are ideal with poultry, veal, and lighter meat dishes such as duck and chicken. They also go well with earthy flavors like mushrooms, carrots, and risotto. Both types of wine, red and white, are suitable for serving with a light meal or even some desserts.

Buying Côte Chalonnaise Wines

At Burgundy or Nowhere, you will find an extensive selection of Côte Chalonnaise wines, from well-known names to hidden gems. We are particularly excited about the wines from Domaine de la Luolle, where both the Givry and Mercurey impress with their complexity and depth at a reasonable price. Our goal is to offer wines that reflect the quality in the bottle, not just the name on the label.
