Pouilly-Fuissé, a Pure Expression of Burgundy Chardonnay

Unoaked white Burgundy wine. This is a refreshing and delightful wine from the rock located next to the famous Solutré rock. Specifically, La Roche de Vergisson, which is pictured on the label of this wine. This terroir is known for its immense minerality, characteristic of the region. Bright lemon yellow, with notes of wildflowers and grassy aromas, combined with lemon, white peach, pineapple, green apple, and pear, with hints of wet granite. M+ bodied, delicious acidity, with a round, silky mouthfeel. A lingering finish with a touch of bitterness. 13% alcohol.

Food Pairings

Perfect as an aperitif, but also great with summer salads. Pair this wine with green asparagus, as the slight bitterness complements the lightly earthy character of the asparagus beautifully. The green fruit notes of this wine also enhance the flavor of the asparagus. It also pairs well with white meat and veal. Vegetable dishes like casseroles, meat ragouts, or risottos also work wonderfully with this wine.

Special Characteristics

  • 100% Chardonnay aged in steel for extra purity of the terroir
  • Fresh, dry, spicy. A summer Burgundy wine. Not too heavy, but full of flavor
  • The wine is grown in the Mâconnais region: in Pouilly-Fuissé
  • Excellent price-quality ratio considering its origin

Domaine Sangouard-Guyot

A family-run estate in the heart of Burgundy, operated for generations by winemakers with a deep-rooted passion for their craft. The estate is located in the Mâconnais region, specifically in the village of Vergisson, known for its limestone soils and excellent conditions for producing white wines, especially Chardonnay.

Today, the estate is led by Pierre-Emmanuel Sangouard, who continues the tradition of his ancestors with a modern vision of winemaking. The winery owns vineyards in some of the best appellations of the region, including Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint-Véran, and Mâcon-Vergisson. These areas are known for their refined wines with a beautiful balance of freshness, minerality, and complexity.

The winemaking at Domaine Sangouard-Guyot is based on respect for the environment and the natural balance of the vineyard. Sustainable methods and minimal chemical interventions are prioritized. This results in wines that embody the pure expression of their terroir.

Wines from Domaine Sangouard-Guyot are often characterized by their elegance and rich aromatic profiles, with notes of white fruit, flowers, and subtle oak tones from refined barrel aging. Whether it's a fresh Saint-Véran or a complex Pouilly-Fuissé, these wines are loved by Burgundy wine enthusiasts around the world.

Mâconnais: The Undiscovered Jewel of Burgundy
The Mâconnais, located in the southern part of Burgundy, is a region often overshadowed by the prestigious vineyards of the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. However, in recent years, this region has garnered much attention due to the excellent price-quality ratio of its wines. While the more famous areas of Burgundy often demand sky-high prices, the Mâconnais offers high-quality wines with unique character, without breaking the bank. For many wine lovers discovering Burgundy, the Mâconnais is a surprising find, proving that top wines don't always come with a hefty price tag.

What is Produced in the Mâconnais?

The Mâconnais is primarily known for its white wines, mostly made from the Chardonnay grape. The region has several appellations, with Mâcon-Villages, Viré-Clessé, Pouilly-Fuissé, and Saint-Véran being the most prominent. These wines are fresh, fruity, and often marked by a fine minerality reminiscent of the top wines from northern Burgundy, but with a softer and more accessible style. The wines from the Mâconnais often have a pronounced terroir, subtly differing from village to village, giving each bottle its own character.

Which Dishes Pair Well with Mâconnais Wines?
The white Chardonnay wines from the Mâconnais are versatile and pair perfectly with a wide range of dishes. They are an excellent choice for seafood like oysters, shrimp, lobster, and crab. Light fish dishes with subtle herb sauces also pair well with these wines. Additionally, they are ideal with poultry dishes, especially when served with mushrooms or light sauces. For dessert, these wines go perfectly with soft cheeses like brie or camembert.
The red wines, made from the Gamay or Pinot Noir grape, are lighter in style and pair well with poultry, veal, duck, and chicken. They are less suited for heavy game dishes but go fantastically with earthy vegetables, mushrooms, root dishes, and risotto. Both wine styles, red and white, are versatile and can even be served with light desserts.
