Behind this bottle lies a beautiful and deeply personal adventure. In 2018, Anne and her husband Thijs left Amsterdam for the French countryside to pursue their dream of raising their children in harmony with nature. Settling in the village of Régnié—one of the renowned Crus of Beaujolais—they were presented with a unique opportunity in 2020 to acquire the vineyards surrounding their home. Drawing from her hospitality background and an enduring passion for wine, Anne took on the challenge of crafting her own wines on this boutique, 3-hectare estate.
At Domaine Lachat, restoring the natural balance of the land is paramount. The old vines are situated at a cooling altitude of 350 to 400 meters on weathered granite soils. The vineyards are farmed organically following the principles of regenerative agriculture. Anne and Thijs sow permanent cover crops, allow their own sheep and chickens to graze and naturally fertilize the soil, and practice agroforestry by planting diverse fruit trees around the plots. This vibrant biodiversity shines through beautifully in the vitality of their grapes.
The Beaujolais-Villages Blanc opens with a delightful, highly attractive nose showing beautiful floral notes and subtle white fruit. On the palate, the wine is delightfully direct, simple, and uncomplicated, driven by a lovely, crisp freshness that makes it an effortless wine to share. It is a completely honest wine—much like the winemaker: genuine, approachable, and open-hearted.
In the cellar, the goal is to mirror both the vintage and the granite terroir. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand, followed by a spontaneous fermentation triggered solely by indigenous yeasts. Throughout the process, a strict philosophy of minimal intervention is maintained, allowing the wine to express its true self. Prior to bottling, only a minimal amount of sulfur is added to preserve the wine's purity and stability.
The ultimate wine to open for an aperitif with friends, picnics, or sunny afternoons on the patio. It also pairs wonderfully with light summer salads, fresh goat cheese, mild fish dishes, or soft, young cheeses.
Aging Potential: At its absolute peak of fruit and freshness right now. Best enjoyed over the next 1 to 2 years.
