The Mâconnais is located in the southern part of Burgundy and is famous for its fresh, fruity Chardonnays and a few light red Gamays. The region has regional, village and some Premier Cru levels.
These can be produced throughout the Mâconnais:
👉 Mâcon may appear with or without a village name, depending on the plot and wine style.
More specific per village; only white, except for Mâcon plus village, which can also be red or rosé.
👉 These five are village AOCs that produce only white wines.

There are 27 authorised villages. These villages often produce white, red and sometimes rosé under their own village name.
Since 2020, Pouilly-Fuissé is the first (and so far only) appellation within the Mâconnais to have official Premier Cru vineyards:

Other villages such as Saint-Véran and Viré-Clessé are also working towards Premier Cru status, but these have not yet been officially granted.
